The Smart Board

Why is it beneficial to have a smart board in a classroom? The smart board provides flexibility and interaction inside the classroom for the children. It provides pictures, videos, games, graphs etc.. The smart board enhances teaching and learning abilities. These smart boards provide new ways of teaching inside a classroom. Your able to interact and share work with the students visually. Some students are visual learners and this would greatly benefit those specific students. Smart boards are considered "going green" without the need of using regular materials such as a paper and pencil. Technology is being integrated into classrooms all over the world to help students create new ways of learning that individually help them learn. The smart board created communication for students to collaborate and demonstrate learning. To make learning fun and interesting rather then looking at a textbook. I hope in my future classroom I will be able to have this piece of technology to help students learn and interact

Prezi:

After looking over these prezi's I personally liked Math Twitter because twitter is something many people use in every day life. I do not exactly know how to use twitter so this prezi was helpful with explaining a few things that are important about twitter. For example it goes over what a hashtag is, direct message, how to start a message and how to reply to a tweet. It explains how you only have 140 characters per tweet to express your thought. You can interact world wide and stay in touch with colleagues using twitter. It explains how your close friends and family can view the things you are doing in your every day life.

Another prezi I specifically enjoyed was the Superbowl Quiz. I thought it was interesting how they broke the prezi down into different parts of a quiz. I love sports but unfortunately did not get too many of the answers right on this quiz. I would like to teach first or second grade and this is a great way to present a fun way to have a quiz. The students would stay engage and be more involved in what they are being tested on.

The third presentation that stood out to me was the Geography Prezi. I liked this one because it really held my attention. I like how the information about each broken down into sections. It discusses the intervening obstacles of the indigenous communities of Guatemala, the eco-tourism of Costa Rica, the communist society of the United States and Cuba. and market verse command. It also explains about the Amazon basin and how important it is agriculturally. This prezi explains how the different countries are important and how they contribute.

flipped classroom blog

 Flipping In Your Classroom:

  • What is one tip you got from Todd?
  • What is one question you have for Todd?
  • After watching this webinar, are you more inclined to try to flip your classroom? Why or Why nor?

  • The flip classroom is a great idea. It allow the students to be in control of the conversations and really be involved in their own learning. A child is a lot more interested in watching a video clip then doing a homework worksheet. The teacher can see which students are watching these videos and which are not. The WSQ and KWL are method developed by Todd Nesloney to monitor if the students are really paying attention to the videos or not WSQ stands for, when and where you watched the video, a summary, and write a question about the video you did not understand. or another way is by doing a KWL, know, what to know, or learned from the video. These two methods help the students grasp what they have learned form the certain video clip which is very important. These two tips allow teachers to monitor their students but keep them highly involved and interested in what they are learning by watching a video clip. This will allow students to be more independent and engage to learn.

Other than using Sophia which other source would you recommend using to upload your videos since your school district does not allow youtube? I would also like to ask which grade level Flip most successful in and why do you believe that?

I am definitely more inclined on using Flip in my classroom in the future. I believe that is highly effective with young children because technology engages children to want to learn more. I am hoping to teach first or second grade students and like i wrote up in my last paragraph, students are much more interested in watching a video rather than doing a worksheet. So I believe that Flip would benefit my students in my future classroom.

    Communication and Collaboration:

Communication and collaboration were crucial to completing levels 3 and mainly 4 of the Tech Teacher Game. We were given a task to make a website with two or three other students from the class. We had to research our topic and figure out how to divide the work evenly. We each contributed a tab on our page which consisted of main ideas of our topic. Collaboration and communication were essential. Each of the five or six groups all had different topics so we can view each others pages and learn about the different topics. During both of these levels we had to communicate effectively to get each activity done to move on to the next one.  If we did not communicate we would not have been able to complete these levels which mean we would most likely fair the game.

Gamification: Is is just another fad?

Gaming has been around for quite some time now and I believe it is evolving into what it can bring to the table for learning. When most people think of gamification they think of video games. Gamification is far more than just video games though, gamification is new and creative way of learning. I believe that gamification draws the students to want to learn more. As everyone knows children love technology and if we can use gamification in an educational environment than it can be greatly beneficial. Gamifiction is an interactive way to help students want to learn and grasp the concepts. This technology provides immediate feed back which is great for children of all ages. Gamification can change children's attitudes towards wanting to learn. They will be more engaged on the subjects they are learning about. Gamification is also beneficial for children with disabilities such as ADHD. It helps keeps them focus and on task. Gamification motivates students to do better so they can receive rewards that the games provide.I do not believe that gamification is just another fad, I think it is just the beginning of what gamification has to offer.

What's so great about You Tube?

Whether your doing research, need help with homework or just want to learn more about something you are interested in, Youtube is a great resource that helps with a wide variety or learning. Youtube is a global search engine that is used all over the world. You can search for a video on youtube that helps guide students through different subjects in schools. For example, if you did not quiet understand the math lesson your teacher went over today in class, you can go on youtube and search for what you did not understand and a video will pop up to help you. Its a step by step video that helps guide children with educational learning. Another great thing about youtube that I did no know is that you can make you own videos. Your able to fully customized these videos. Personally I have not created my own video but I believe it will come of great use in the future. You can create an account and save these videos so you can show them at another time. This would be very useful for teachers with showing students videos about lessons because technology keeps children engaged.

Convince another educator or principal of the importance of QR codes or ipads in an educational setting.

    Dear Principle,

Hello, I am currently a Richard Stockton student. I would like to inform you on a technology that can be extremely beneficial in a classroom setting. The Ipad has many different functions from taking pictures to a calculator to even a calander. The Ipad is a piece of technology that draws the attention of children to keep them more engaged. The Ipad has thousands of educational apps along with apps that are useful in every day life. Ipads have specific apps to help special needs children learn. There are apps with pictures and big words to help the children learn. There are apps that speak to you and help you communicate. The apps help in a way a teacher cannot sometimes. The learning is easier in a way for children to extend there attention spans on learning. This piece of technology will draw students to want to learn. This technology is not only beneficial to the students but the teachers as well. I think every school should take into great consideration on purchasing Ipads to benefit their students and staff.

    Sincerely,
    Brittney Lyon
    Student at Richard Stockton College
